Ultra Energy Efficiency has remained an exotic and misunderstood art/science for several reasons. First, it does not market well to a public addicted to wooden homes and in times where energy has been abundant and seemingly inexhaustible. Second, it is not an intuitive science that can be totally understood from books and little accurate material has been written about it. And finally, mastering it requires someone with a passion for discovery instead of profit. The Ordinary Home and the GreenFire™ Home Compared.
The illustrations above clearly show the fundamental and profound differences between a GreenFire™ Home and a ordinary wood home. The wood home starts out as mostly holes which are plugged up as the building is constructed (much like plugging up a bucket of water full of holes). The GreenFire™ Home starts out as a single solid piece of concrete using our own ICF (Insulated Concrete Form) technology. The wood home is insulated with fiberglass - the most energy inefficient of all modern insulating materials. The GreenFire™ Home uses only solid 4” polystyrene insulation many times more efficient than fiberglass. The wood home has poorly sealed windows and doors allowing air infiltration and enormous energy loss. The GreenFire™ Home has highly advanced window and door jambs set into concrete that allow no possibility of air infiltration and in addition, come with our Invisible, insulated Hurricane & Security Shutters (see GreenFire’s Insulated Hurricane Shutters) that automatically cover and insulate windows and doors. The wood home has a open wooden roof joist system that bleeds huge amounts of energy. The GreenFire™ Home has a solid concrete roof bonded and sealed to the concrete walls and insulated with 6 - 12” of solid polystyrene insulation.

Tried & Tested
This system has been scientifically tested for many years starting in 1980. The results of this real world testing were astounding, but have never been published and remain our proprietary technology. Used in combination with our Energy Chamber, we recorded an energy efficiency more than 60 times as efficient as the best of the wooden homes in very severe weather testing during several Colorado winters. As efficient as this system was, it has been recently upgraded to include our proprietary Insulated Hurricane Shutters as well as several other upgrades which should easily elevated us to the rank of the Most Energy Efficient Home in the World.
